Reviving the Past: Upcycled Couture in Twilight Reverie

      2025-02-10

Upcycling has become an important part of fashion, and not just a wave to ride on. It has been crucial nowadays to produce consciously and Tony Ward is one of the fashion houses to constantly upcycle archive dresses while giving them new pulse. It is not just as a sustainable practice, but as a way to preserve and transform existing craftsmanship.

In Tony Ward’s Spring-Summer 2025 Couture collection, Twilight Reverie, several gowns were upcycled, showcasing how archived pieces can be reimagined.

Dress #4: A Corset with a New Story
Originally part of a two-piece dress from a previous collection, the corset in Look 4 has been reworked to fit the storytelling of Twilight Reverie. The ‘transformation’ involved adding linear green, silver, and pink embroideries along the sides, creating a sunray-like effect that enhances the silhouette. A new skirt was attached, featuring matching embroidery that seamlessly connects with the corset’s detailing.

      Dress #17: Embroidery Reinterpreted
In Look 17, the upcycled feature is more subtle but equally impactful. The gown’s embroidery was reimagined from a dress from previous collections. Rather than using the embroidery in its original form, it has been integrated into a new flair, with adjustments in color and placement to reflect the collection’s aesthetic.

    • Dress #25: A Skirt Transformed
The green gown in Look 25 features an attached skirt that was previously was a dress. This piece was recreated while adding 3D material work that gives the fabric an added texture and depth. To complement the reworked skirt, a fully beaded corset was created, introducing a gradient of colors that transitions seamlessly from one shade to another. It’s all in the combination of upcycled material, with new embellishments to form in a dynamic contrast of structure and flow.

      Dress #45: A Cape Reused…but with Purpose
Look 45 showcases an upcycled cape, given life again from a previous collection. The cape’s original form has been kept, but its integration into this new design shows how existing elements can be adapted to fit different narratives. With minimalistic adjustments in draping and detailing, the cape blended naturally with the gown’s silhouette while maintaining its original craftsmanship.
